Dr. Jeffrey Tapley received his undergraduate degree in biological sciences from the University of Alabama. He earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), graduating with honors and as a member of the National Honor Medical Society (Alpha Omega Alpha).
After medical school, Dr. Tapley completed a residency in ophthalmology at UAB, where he was appointed chief resident. He then completed a fellowship in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at the prestigious Devers Eye Institute in Portland, Oregon. Prior to joining Ullman Eye Consultants, Dr. Tapley was an assistant professor at UAB, teaching residents cataract surgery and corneal transplant surgery. Dr. Tapley has co-authored several peer-reviewed articles and teaches ophthalmologists around the world corneal transplant techniques at the annual American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting.
These guys are awesome. I went here to have a metal sliver removed from the center of my pupil, first seeing Dr Ullman then Dr Tapley. These gentlemen are extremely skilled and very professional. THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING! Hands down the best Ophthalmologist I have ever been to.
There aren’t enough good things to say about a doctor who gives you your life back. Dr. Tapley did just that! I saw Dr. Tapley January 3, 2023. He was thorough, courteous and kind. He took his time explaining what the surgery would entail, insuring all my questions were answered.

Dr. Tapley is amazing, and I am thrilled with the way he and his office staff have treated me. Both before and after surgery, they answered questions promptly, and encouraged me to feel free to call them any time. Next week I have the cataract in my left eye fixed. I’m so excited to have both eyes in sync. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Tapley without hesitation.
